The Security Triangle: Security, Law Enforcement, and Intelligence ED402.10

Description: This course focuses on the three components of the security triangle (security, law enforcement (LE), and intelligence). Through the review of case studies, this course explores how the DOD security professional collaborates with and supports the LE and intelligence communities to prevent future security failures. This course reviews the roles, missions, jurisdiction, and regulatory guidance that the security, LE, and intelligence communities operate within. Also, this course covers how the security professional serves as an integral partner with LE and intelligence in protecting our national security. 

Course Learning Outcomes: This course is designed to enable students to:

  • Explain the missions and roles of U.S. security, LE, and intelligence organizations.
  • ​Compare the jurisdictions of DOD, federal and military security, LE, and intelligence organizations. 
  • Analyze incidents to identify the major failures of security, LE, and intelligence communities. 
  • Evaluate the mission integration of the three components of the security triangle. 
  • Summarize information sharing processes, programs, networks, and databases for LE and intelligence communities that are key to preventing future security failures.

Requirements: This course requires students to complete weekly assignments, including reading, research, and writing assignments similar to those required in an eight-week undergraduate-level course. Students must make a significant time commitment to complete these assignments. 

Prerequisites: Freshman English from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent is recommended.
