Writing Incident Reports and Research Papers for DOD Security ED203.10

Description: The purpose of the Writing Incident Reports and Research Papers for DOD Security course is to prepare students to write reports of security incidents and formal reports of security-related topics or research. This course will focus on the formal writing and communication tasks that security professionals are required to perform as part of their jobs and in future college or graduate education.

Note: ED202 (8 weeks) and ED203 (8 weeks) are replacing ED201 (16 weeks). If you have taken ED201 before, the course material in ED202 will be similar to the first 8 weeks of ED201.

Course Learning Outcomes:

Students will be able to:

  •  Evaluate the accuracy and effectiveness of a written statement from an investigative interview.
  •  Write an incident report based on the results of an investigation using the fundamentals of effective writing.
  •  Write an academic research paper/report with an annotated bibliography on a complex, security-related topic using the Chicago Manual of Style.

Delivery Method: Virtual Instructor-led Education (VILE)

Length: 8 Weeks

Target Audience: U.S. military members and civilian Government employees preparing for leadership responsibilities in DOD Security

Number of Students per Course: 20

Requirements: This course requires students to complete weekly assignments, including reading, research, and writing assignments similar to those required for a three-semester hour college course. Students must make a significant commitment of time to complete these assignments.
