The Defense Security Enterprise: A National Security Enabler ED401.10

Description: This course provides a foundational understanding of the core tenets of security and the role of security as a mission enabler in achieving the broader goals of the U.S. Department of Defense. It treats Security Management as a doctrine and will discuss examples of how security successes and failures have historically bolstered and undermined the DOD mission. The course explores how the core defense security disciplines serve as a critical enabler to the missions of DOD commands and agencies. The course is designed to help mid-career security professionals understand their critical role in supporting national security.

Course Learning Outcomes:

This course is designed to enable students to:

  • Explain the goals, principles, and strategies of the Defense Security Enterprise (DSE).
  • Evaluate the impact of security operations on the broader infrastructure of the U.S. Department of Defense.
  • Analyze contemporary defense security management issues in the core security disciplines and propose innovative solutions.

Delivery Method: Virtual Instructor-led Education (VILE)

Length: 8 Weeks

Target Audience: Restricted to U.S. Government civilian employees and military service members

Number of Students per Course: 20

Requirements: This course requires students to complete weekly assignments, including reading, research, and writing assignments similar to those required for an eight-week undergraduate-level course. Students must make a significant time commitment to complete these assignments.

Prerequisites: Freshman English from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent is recommended.

Credit Recommendation: (What's this?): Three semester hours in security infrastructure or security management - graduate degree category.

Professional Development Units per SPēD: PDUs are determined by length of course and IAW with current Certification Maintenance Guidelines.

System Requirements: Check if your system is configured appropriately to use STEPP.

CDSE courses are intended for use by Department of Defense and other U.S. Government personnel and contractors within the National Industrial Security Program.
