National Cybersecurity Awareness Month

October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Since its inception in 2004, its objective has been raising awareness about the importance of cybersecurity. CDSE offers many cybersecurity resources, including case studies, eLearning courses, job aids, and more. Check out CDSE’s cybersecurity resource page here.

Cybersecurity Awareness Course

CDSE’s Cybersecurity Awareness eLearning course is a great resource for DOD information system users. The course introduces the automated information systems (AIS) environment and the threats and vulnerabilities faced when working within the Government or defense industrial systems. It provides a working knowledge of cyber intrusion methods and cybersecurity countermeasures to assist employees in preventing cyber-attacks and protecting their systems and information. The user experience centers on a single, large-scale, disastrous event. Several contributing scenarios are presented to show different vantage points related to the large event. SPēD Eligibility and Prerequisites

Ever wonder how to become eligible for the Security Professional Education Development (SPēD) certification and what the prerequisites are? In general, candidates are eligible to pursue SPēD certification if they are DOD personnel performing security enterprise functions, federal employees of a participating agency within the security workforce, or contractors assigned to a security position supporting DOD. Eligible candidates must meet outlined prerequisites based on the specific certification or credential they are pursuing.

For example, an eligible candidate can pursue the Security Program Integration Professional Certification (SPIPC), Security Asset Protection Professional Certification (SAPPC), Special Program Security Credential (SPSC), and Industrial Security Oversight Credential (ISOC) only if they are currently Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) certified. Adjudicators at agencies accepted to participate in the program must complete prerequisite training before they are eligible to take the Adjudicator Professional Certification (APC) and must obtain the APC prior to attempting the Due Process Adjudicator Professional Credential (DPAPC). There is no specific prerequisite for the Physical Security Certification (PSC), and only Antiterrorism Officers (ATOs) are eligible to pursue the Antiterrorism Credential (ATC).
