What is the difference between Security Education and Security Training?
The objective of education is usually to gain knowledge about principles, concepts, and facts and to develop analytic and problem solving skills. The materials learned and the skills developed through education can be used by the student in a variety of settings.
Training is typically concerned with gaining a skill or set of skills specific to a particular job. Effectiveness is gauged by comparing the student's performance of particular job-related tasks prior to and after receiving the training.
Is CDSE an accredited institution?
CDSE is currently accredited by the Council on Occupational Education (COE), a national accrediting authority recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Can I earn credit towards a college degree by taking CDSE Security Professional Education courses?
CDSE Security Professional Education courses were designed and developed to meet credit equivalency recommendations for college- and graduate-level courses. 30 CDSE courses have been evaluated by the American Council on Education (ACE) and have ACE CREDIT recommendations. These courses are listed in the ACE National Guide.
CDSE staff will assist students who wish to transfer CDSE credits by providing information about these courses to the college or university.
Does CDSE offer a Master's Degree in DoD Security?
No. CDSE does not currently have the authority to confer a degree.

- Earn you 45 professional development units (PDU) for each course completed to maintain a SPēD Certification
- Help prepare you for other SPēD certifications
- Have ACE CREDIT recommendations, allowing you to transfer credit towards a Bachelor's or Master's degree at certain universities
Are courses available online?
Courses are delivered using an online collaborative learning environment, making them available to U.S. military members and government employees worldwide.
Do I need to travel to attend a CDSE Security Professional Education course?
These courses are delivered entirely online using a collaborative learning environment. No travel is required to complete these courses.
