How do I get started in the SPēD Certification Program?

Notify your supervisor and DoD Component SPēD PMO of your intent to participate in the SPēD Certification Program. After receiving approval:

  1. Create or update your STEPP account.
  2. Select the Profile link in STEPP located on the top-right navigation bar.
  3. Check the box indicating your desire to participate in the SPēD Certification Program.
  4. You will receive an email from SPēDCERT 24 to 48 hours after checking the box. Select the "My SPēD Certification" link in this email.
  5. Verify your account information.
  6. Request authorization to test by going to "Complete a Form."
  7. Select the desired certification.
  8. Log in to your My SPēD Certification account and click on the "Schedule Exam" link on the left navigation to schedule your assessment. (Alternatively, you may contact Pearson Customer Support at 888-477-0284 to schedule your assessment.)
  9. Select a date, time, and test center most convenient for you.

I have indicated I am interested in participating in the SPēD Certification Program and waited 48 hours, but I still haven't received an email. What do I do?

Call Pearson Customer Support at 888-477-0284.

Where can I find a test site?

Once you’ve received authorization to test, log in to your My SPēD Certification account and click on the "Schedule Exam" link on the left navigation to schedule your assessment. Alternatively, you may contact Pearson Customer Support at 888-477-0284 to schedule your assessment.

What if I have a registration question?

For questions related to participation in the SPēD Certification Program, please contact your DoD Component SPēD point of contact. If you have registration questions regarding SPēD Certification after you receive approval to participate in the SPēD Certification Program, please send an email to dss.spedcert@mail.mil.

I checked that I am interested in participating in the SPēD Certification Program, but I changed my mind. What do I do?

If requested, CDSE will inactivate your My SPēD Certification account. Requests should be sent to dss.spedcert@mail.mil.

What do I do if I receive a prompt asking me to click to run an ActiveX control on this webpage?

STEPP requires ActiveX to view content. Select the option to run ActiveX.

Why isn't the website displayed/working correctly?

Some users experience problems with connecting to websites using Internet Explorer 8. To correct this problem, use the following instructions to enable the view compatibility function for IE8.

  1. In Internet Explorer, select Tools > Compatibility View Settings.
  2. Select Display all websites in Compatibility View.
