Description: This course covers effective techniques for communicating ideas, concepts, and policies in defense security. The course examines dimensions of communication styles, concepts, principles and theories of communication and how these apply to effective communication in DoD security. It addresses communication in problem-solving processes, the importance of communication to effective leadership, and the importance of effective communication in complex wartime and peacetime environments. The course also provides an overview of how the DoD bureaucracy supports communication.
This course will develop each student's ability to use this knowledge to become more effective as a security leader in the DoD. This course includes reading, research, and writing assignments similar to a three credit-hour college or graduate-level course.
Textbooks: There is no charge for this course; however, there may be a need to purchase textbook(s) to support some of the reading and research requirements. Approximately 30 days before the semester start date, you will receive a welcome letter from CDSE which will include information on the required textbooks for this specific course.
